ssh and iptables woes

Hi,

I am in the process of setting up a home server. I am manually configuring iptables and have opened port 22 and have the related, established rule there too. But I can still never connect to sshd. I think that the problem may lie with sshd itself as my rules seem fine and I get the following error when I try to connect from the server itself over the loopback or over the network itself:

ssh_exchange_identification: connection closed by remote host

I just get a connection closed error on putty on remote hosts however.

Can anyone advise me what this error messge means or offer any advice.

Re: ssh and iptables woes

Add sshd (e.g. sshd:ALL) to /etc/hosts.allow on your server machine.
