Networking not working (wireless and lan)

Hey

I am not new to linux and not new to Arch.

I am trying to get Arch installed on a new LG LGF1 laptop. I can't get networking working at all - not wired, and not wireless.

Dhcpcd simply doesn't work (i don't know why) and dhclient can't seem to connect as well.

I don't know the model of the wireless card to try to set it up.

But, on the bright side - Knoppix recognizes everything and wired and wireless networking is working.

How can I use knoppix to know the correct settings to use in Arch?

Thanks

Re: Networking not working (wireless and lan)

Well, for starters you should be able to use Knoppix to determine which kernel modules are being loaded, and in doing so you can figure out what the hardware specs are for your wired and wireless cards.  Once you get Knoppix booted, try running 'lsmod' from a terminal to see the currently loaded modules.

I didn't know LG even made notebooks, but most vendors offer detailed spec sheets on their systems, with chipset names and all, so I would recommend checking LG before you spend too much time fiddling with the command line.

Does ifconfig return ANY interfaces when you run it from Arch?

Hey

Thanks for the reply.

I managed to get the Wireless working after doing exactly what you suggested.
Now only wired networking does not work, but I guess that will be easier to resolve.

Thanks again

lspci is also useful for identifying hardware, as is dmesg.
