Re: 2007.11-0.4 Isos released, installation feedback

No problems here, both ftp and core isos worked perfectly except that c0 respawning thing mentioned earlier that it's a little annoying.

FTP iso 0.4 installed without problems. Only thing is that mentioned earlier "c0 respawning" pops out at the worst possible time tongue

Re: 2007.11-0.4 Isos released, installation feedback

Would not be possible to apply similar (to gentoo's) solution? It works well from kernel version to kernel version (in terms of update as there is no need to install additionally external module).
Just asking.

Will there be a 2.6.23 based ISO or are you waiting for the 2.6.24 release?

Re: 2007.11-0.4 Isos released, installation feedback

hi all,

i was wondering when / if a new iso will be made available. And if so is there still a 2007.11 on the horizon or will we get a 2008.01 or something?

I am about to reinstall my systems with the latest Arch and convert my FS to JFS in the process and I would like to install with all the latest and greatest software available (pacman 3.1, kernel 2.6.24).

I know I can easily update after the initial install but this takes extra bandwith and causes some initial fragmentation even before using Arch (and JFS is prone to fragmentation as it is). So a good solid and up-to-date base is what I am looking forward to before formatting my pc's.

thx,
stefan

Hm, using a computer actually imminently causes fragmentation and as Arch is quite bleeding edge one will generally need some bandwidth anyway. Besides that I also anticipate the new iso release smile

If everything else fails, read the manual.

yes i plan a new release with .24 kernel available, the rc isos work so you can already use this.

I have a problem while using this iso. I modified the fstab file during the installation, but I found that the file in the system was not changed by the installation script. Does anyone else have the same problem?

The rc core iso worked without a hitch. smile

And it looks like .24 is released? (kernel.org)

Re: 2007.11-0.4 Isos released, installation feedback

Hi all,

i was just wondering if there is any news regarding the new .iso files? With the ftp install broken somewhat currently I am sort of postponing my reinstalls until the new iso's come out. And are there any plans on getting netcfg2 out of testing for the new install? it would be great to have the added functionality available at install (offline) time.

thanks so far,
stefan

Probably not too long after the new kernel leaves testing. Building a new iso generally doesn't take very long. You can speed up the process by using the testing-repo and reporting bugs, if any.

thanks for the reply. I am currently using the testing repo and have been on 2.6.24 for a while now (in a virtual machine though)
However since I am probably not the most exciting enduser (the basic setup of a rather current random distro mostly suits all my needs besides rdesktop, citrix, composite window managing and the non-existent OOo OOXML plugin) i have not found any problems with the 2.6.24 kernel and have nothing exciting to report on that matter. Vanilla kernel mostly just work for me but then I have a rather general deskt- and laptop which work mostly out of the box.

"not long after leaving testing" is there a ballpark guess estimate for such?

stefan

So I guess there'll be a new version soon, now that the 2.6.24 kernel has moved to core?
