Hi,
read a great article on setting up ssh & sshfs on Arch ... it says that a static address is better [easier!] than dhcp ?
Anyway I still do not like the idea of port forwarding just to use local network [Laptop to Desktop via router!]
Now I need help to set it up and in return I will write a wiki page so others can do it too
Forwarding a port leaves it open to the web which I do not want can I access my Desktop from router [pc side!] and how its done
TIA

Have you looked at port knocking?

You only have to forward a port if you want it to be accessable from the Internet. For local connections, just connect to the IP address of the other computer.
The benefit of setting static IPs is that you always know what they are. If you use DHCP, then depending on your router and how it's configured, your computers may change IPs occasionally, depending on which order they connect.

You can setup most routers to couple a specific ip-address to a specific mac-address.
(Check the manual/web interface of your router.)
This will allow you to give out fixed addresses using dhcp.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
(A works at time B) && (time C > time B ) ≠ (A works at time C)
