I'm running a Macbook using madwifi for the wireless chip. Everything was working fantastic until recently, I've run into some internet problems.
Basically my internet will be working fine, then it will just stop working. Internet radio stops, AIM signs me off, IRC times out, webpages are stuck on "Looking up foo.com." About a minute later, wham, internet it up and at full speed again. It's the oddest thing...
This issue persists on different networks as well, so it has got to be something software based on my machine.

Reading around, this appears to be a common issue with atheros chips. The problem was resolved by disabling background scanning by adding
iwpriv ath0 bgscan 0to my rc.local
