xcompmgr - strange glitch

I'm running Fluxbox on the open source ATI drivers (card is ATI xpress 200). I'm trying to get xcompmgr to run, but as soon as I start it, windows I have open vanish (along with the "dock") and the desktop just gets screwed up in general.
If I left click to open the fluxbox menu, it will appear for a second with a large black box around it (I think it's supposed to be a drop shadow) then vanish. The same sort of behavior occurs if I click a window, it will appear with a black box around it and then vanish.

There are no errors when I run xcompmgr (command is xcompmgr -c). Anyone know what's going on? Are there any diagnostic tests I can use?

Re: xcompmgr - strange glitch

Does anyone know of a way I could get a video of this behavior? It's hard to describe, and I'm not sure how to make videos within X.

Re: xcompmgr - strange glitch

I am experiencing the same issue running fluxbox with the i810 intel driver.  I have used xcompmgr before and it has worked on this machine.
