UDMA fails 80 wire enable in libata

Is there a fix in archlinux for the failure to establish UDMA greater than mode 2 because the libata module doesn't recognize the 80-wire cable connect?

Ramses de Norre;

Yep, that's pretty cute!  It's my bug but it isn't being handled since my problem is with a Live faunos boot system over which I may not have any change control unless the fix is a boot option.  The kernel in this system is .23 and .24 I suspect has the same difficulty.

Thanks for replying and gladdaseeya....

Re: UDMA fails 80 wire enable in libata

I don't have this issue.. and I use PATA (80 wire)

ata_piix 0000:00:1f.1: version 2.12
scsi0 : ata_piix
scsi1 : ata_piix
ata1: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x000101f0 ctl 0x000103f6 bmdma 0x0001fc00 irq 14
ata2: PATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0x00010170 ctl 0x00010376 bmdma 0x0001fc08 irq 15
ata1.00: ATA-7: Maxtor 6L250R0, BAJ41G20, max UDMA/133
ata1.00: 490234752 sectors, multi 16: LBA48
ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133
ata2.00: ATAPI: BENQ    DVD DD DW1620, B7W9, max UDMA/33
ata2.01: ATAPI: HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR8163B, 0L23, max UDMA/33
ata2.00: configured for UDMA/33
ata2.01: configured for UDMA/33

Is this a Flashcard bug only?  I'm using a Hard drive so it must be.

Re: UDMA fails 80 wire enable in libata

I have a flashcard problem but have noted others having DVD difficulties with UDMA set to UDMA25!!

I note that my HDD is properly handled in that it is identified as udma 6 when used.

This problem is reported even with no cable interface(direct connected adapter) and is due to a bug in libata-acpi.

My adapters are UDMA rated and do ID in dmesg as UDMA 2 configured.  With an UDMA 5 flash card they showed UDMA 2.

The error is signified by the statement "limited to udma2 due to 40-wire cable", even with an 80-wire cable properly   connected and adapter oriented for UDMA.  If it weren't oriented for udma, the dmesg data would not show udma2.

So goes the battle!
