DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

I hadn't used K3B for a month or so and when I started it today it said that DMA was disabled on my DVD-RW drive. I haven't changed my hardware configuration so I guess this might be a problem with the current kernel build (I am using the kernel26 package). Using hdparm I can re-enable DMA to get rid of the warning but it won't burn faster than 2.7x!

Re: DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

Ah... I hadn't thought of that. On quick inspection there seems to be errors relating to hdc (the DVD drive) but I'm not sure what they mean. This was never a problem before so I don't know why it's failing now. Maybe the hardware is fooked. My soundcard died, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Re: DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

The sound card seems to be a separate issue.

Check your DVD cables for proper connection, remove and replace connectors to ensure no bad connections and retry.

If possible, change to another channel and see what occurs with the DVD in dmesg.

Re: DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

I tried burning a DVD in Windows - it worked fine at full speed.
I tried it on an old custom kernel build (2.6.22.7) - again it worked at full speed.

So there is definitely something wrong with the current kernel. I will try a custom build of 2.6.24.3 to see if this is a configuration problem or a kernel regression.

Re: DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

I just did a custom build (from scratch) of 2.6.24.3 - and the same problem exists!

So the problem seems to be the kernel itself, unless the kernel26 packager and myself are making the same configuration error.

Problem seems to have solved itself on last update.

Re: DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

Unfortunately i still have this problem sad
K3b seems to disable dma whenever it starts..  I'm using 2.6.25 but with an old 2.6.22-ck the same thing happens.. From what i could find online the debian kernel does not have this problem http://dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php?t … 9.msg10408

Any idea why?

Re: DMA disabled on DVD-RW drive

I think with libata,DMA and all are enabled by default.but when tried with hdparm it will err out that no dma is enabled smile
