(Solved) Ampache/httpd not letting me read Mp3 list ><

Edit2: Apparently, the permissions for my Desktop folder were incorrect. chmod 755 -R on the Desktop folder (im the only one on this pc, so its ok) worked fine, thanks to the advice of someone on the ampache irc.

Hi guys,

Beforehand, to direct your responses and their experience-assumptions: I'm new to Arch, kind of new to LAMP systems, though I've had 2 years or so of Linux experience. I've set up LAMP systems on several other distros (Debian and Ubuntu) and had a similar issue but found a workaround that doesn't seem to work anymore. On these setups, I had a working Ampache (www.ampache.org) to stream my music. I can't seem to register for the ampache froums, but I'm pretty sure it's an HTTPD setup problem anyway. I installed LAMP arch almost to the T from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/LAMP, and Ampache from http://trac.ampache.org/wiki/  with minor modifications (like putting the newest version off the site in /home/httpd/html/) and such. It more or less works.

I just have one last problem I haven't been able to solve..

Basically, when I try to get Ampache to read my MP3 list for streaming, it fails saying the directory (/home/fox/Desktop/Zero/Mp3s/Rockish) doesn't exist, which is nonsense. I've tried http://trac.ampache.org/wiki/InstallCatalog 's advice regarding permissions along with just making it entirely 777, but no go. I want my mp3 folder to remain in the same place, and the icon in the bottom right corner of an icon made from a symlink is annoying ><

I can correctly add mp3s if the folder is in /home/httpd/html/ampache. Playing with /etc/httpd/conf/extra/httpd-userdir.conf led me to be 1 step closer to working (the user is correct), and the music will also correctly add if it is located in a folder in /home/fox/public_html. However, that's still not quite what I want. In playing with it, I still can't figure out how to make this all correctly work from /home/fox/Desktop/Zero/Mp3s/Rockish after quite some time in playing with that file. Putting a symlink in /home/fox/public_html to the Rockish folder and adding /home/fox/public_html/Rockish in ampache also failed.

Edit1: It seems putting the mp3 files in /home/fox/stuff also seems to add correctly.. I guess all of the above messing with httpd-userdir wasn't doing what I thought it was. Now I'm seriously confused. Is it just unable to add anything from "Desktop"?? It's not because of the capital letter, as I just tried /home/fox/Stuff and it worked fine..

I would appreciate your input, solution or workaround (such as removing that silly arrow on a symlink or something). smile
