Great timing! I'm going to start a Linux CD shop very soon and it's nice to have a fresh new release smile When will there be a full release?

EDIT: Just had a look. A few days? Great big_smile

yes wiat until the mirrors are synced.
It needs some time that they pick them up.
In some hours they will be available.

Ok. Thanks.

I have 4 different machines that I will install on, so I
should be able to give some feedback when finished.

Re: 2008.03-0.3 Isos released, installation feedback

No real problems.

/arch/setup script: line 1674 (and probably line 1672)
dodialog inputbox "Enter the path to Arch Linux packages" 8 65 "/$repo/os/i686"
shows up as "//os/i686"

I tried the ftp cd and the lowmem install on core cd.

It is true that a new install ISO has been needed for quite some time, what with the new pacman 3.1.x and so.

However, with all due respect, shouldn't you have waited for kernel 2.6.25 to come out? It should be ready in another 2-3 weeks.

wantilles, can you guarantee that the .25 kernel will work flawlessly?
yes new kernel is out soon, but it needs mostly one month or more to see how stabel it really is.

XChrisX thanks for your report, i don't think it's a real showstopper it's now fixed again in installer git.

What about including: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15070 ?

Many motherboards seem to use this chipset for network cards.

well, without feature requests nothing happens wink
probably too late to get it into the 2008.03 release but we could discuss this later for next release.

one could release new iso's more frequently wink
also, I have been waiting for this iso, when it gets released (hopefully in about 4-5 days) I can reinstall arch, and stop using the root account big_smile

Man, people are so demanding...
One could also just use an existing iso and do 'pacman -Syu'.

The number of people that have started threads asking when the new iso is coming out is surprisingly large. Just can't understand it. With a rolling release, iso's should be a very small concern (unless it doesn't support your hardware yet). Some people complain about the amount they have to download: I installed Ubuntu for a friend about a month back and the updates came to something well over 200MB. And even so, you shouldn't be going for arch if download limits are a problem. With other distros you can choose to download only security updates, rather than other recommended updates, but with arch your encouraged to keep everything up to date.

and people are so complaining..

It was just a suggestion, not a demand.
I am well aware of the user group archlinux is intended for.

I'm making a live cd image of current about every week now. I will have to make it installable but you can test this system without install it. The only problem is its kernel is based off of slax config and not arch config.

I hope this helps.

If you were actually well aware, you wouldn't have suggested for more frequent iso's wink

Developers can spend their time doing something more useful than releasing iso's every 2 months for a rolling release distro, which due to it's nature renders iso's much less important than other distros. As can be seen in the dev mailing list, a lot of work goes into making an iso. It's not as straightforward as some people may think (me included, before i'd become accustomed with the dev mailing list).

People often forget that we are volunteering our work for Arch Linux. tpowa, thanks for your efforts, I saw a good planning for this on the mailing list, congrats.

I don't think so, people just keep asking. Alas it's open source, sometimes users forget about their manners but sometimes devs forget about their manners too. Without devs _and_ users there wouldn't be any ArchLinux or Linux at all. So instead of a quickt shot, think and then write.

Good job!
I've tried several installations in a VM, all work fine.
Also tried an install with GPT partition table and parted (#9864, #9865), goes straight ahead.

Maybe today i start also a lowmem install.

Well, that often happens, is a very distinctive mark in human beings.

On Topic,
I'll see if I can give this new installer a shot, I seem to mess my system every now and then, good thing there is always a backup handy. Good thing we now finally have an ISO to get the "Core Dump" name I thought it would never happen.;)

Yup Roberth, I agree with you. Attansic L2 is placed on most asus motherboards, so it will be great to include this driver ^^
Anyway thx for release, going to try it
