So I'm using rt61 module for my Linksys WRT54G 4.1, and when I try to configure my connection for WPA2 using the 'iwpriv' command, I'm getting the "no private ioctls" error.
For example:
[root@monpc~]# iwpriv wlan0 set AuthMode=WPA2PSK
wlan0 no private ioctls.
Any idea how to fix this? The module seems to be working otherwise, as it can detect networks around me, and iwconfig works fine for configuring the essid.

You should use wpa_supplicant to configure WPA/WPA2

rt61 does not support wpa_supplicant. However, the rt61pci driver now provided by the kernel does, and is recommended over rt61.

How can I change to the kernel driver?

OK I got it working! But now I want to edit my rc.conf so that it automatically connects on startup. I disabled encryption (now I'm just using the mac address filter)
Following one guide on the wiki, it says I should add this line:
wlan_wlan0='wlan0 essid <myessid>
Can someone give me an exact example of how it should be entered (using the essid "gauvenators network") because everytime I try I get errors about unrecognized command.

I ended up ditching what I previously posted and instead used netcfg2. Works great for automatically connecting.
