I have an AR5007eg wifi card in my laptop and I use ndiswrapper successfully on my i686 installation, however, I have an X86_84 installation on a separate partition and am experiencing some weird behavior with ndiswrapper. I can not connect to my AP unless I do
modprobe -r ndiswrapper
modprobe ndiswrapper
depmod -a
once I do that every connects OK, if I don't netcfg2 fails! On the i686 installation, everything works fine. I have tried reinstalling ndiswrapper and wireless tools etc, even tried installing madwifi first (as was the case with my i686 install.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could give me any pointers on how to rectify this as I have spent the weekend trawling the net for clues.

I have an x86_64 system with a broadcom 4318 mini wlan card. I had to use the bcmwl564.sys file to get it working. I don't know about your card, but perhaps it is using the lib32 files in your 686 drive to work. In the boot sequence do you get 'loading modules... fatal unable to load module ndiswrapper.' Have you modified your rc.conf to load ndiswrapper (ie if you have a separate one for your 64bit setup) at boot?
I don't know if these are the solutions just some info if it helps

Thanks for the suggestions, but no, I get no fatal errors, my rc.conf loads ndiswrapper which is why I have to unload the module first. My i686 install is on a separate partition which is not mounted in my X86_64 system. I am using the net5211 driver (64 bit) from http://blakecmartin.googlepages.com/ which clearly works when I reload ndiswrapper, just not on initial boot!

Problem fixed, I enabled testing and updated to the latest ndiswrapper and 2.6.25 kernel and my wifi works on start-up.
