strange internet pppoe problem

hi there. I've got one pretty weird problem with my net connection - on a fresh install with xfce there's missing something:

[root@truman biggie]# pppoe-setup
bash: pppoe-setup: command not found
[root@truman biggie]# pon pppoe
The file /etc/ppp/peers/pppoe does not exist.

This happens when I tried connecting via rp-pppoe - my connection of choice.
Firstly, I though that somehow I deleted the rp-pppoe package, but I was wrong:

[root@truman biggie]# pacman -Q rp-pppoe
rp-pppoe 3.8-1

Something else - when my xfce starts, it warns me that my host (truman) is not in /etc/host and the most strange thing there is no ifconfig. when I tried it, it said there's no such command in bash?!?
