Earlier, I was updating the software on my brother's laptop (a Fedora machine), and the wireless wasn't working. So, I unplugged the ethernet cable from my system, and plugged it into his. After getting the update started, I turned around to see that my computer had shut down while I wasn't looking, so I pressed the power button.
It gave no response, and again after a second press. Then, I fiddled with the power cord to make sure it was correctly plugged in, and the computer made a quiet noise. After that, I hit the power button again. This time, it booted up. So, after I was done updating my brother's system, I plugged the ethernet cable back into my own computer, and it shutdown again!
This time, I saw it happen, and it didn't go through the normal shutdown process. It just cut off. I tried pushing the power button again, but it was acting the same as before. I fiddled with the power cable again, getting the same noise from the computer, and then I booted it up.
So, does anybody know why this happened? What about theories?
