Static IP

I will be creating a network soon that will be using arch for the server.  The network will consist of the Server, a Switch, and 3 or 4 thin-clients.

My question is:  What to I do when configuring my server's network aspects of the OS?   Like in the rc.conf, resolv.conf, /etc/hosts?  It will be the DHCP server for the network (so no router with dhcp), so do I need to configure the system like I have a static IP?

Re: Static IP

Yes. As a general rule, servers of any sort are configured with a static address.

So I can choose any static IP I want right?  I've only used dhcp before so I'm new to static ips.

Re: Static IP

You can choose any IP that's in your network block and isn't in use by another machine.
