vsftp and sshd

I have installed vsftp following the wiki. I added the chroot option, but it didn't seem to have any effect.
I thought perhaps that somehow SSH was actually running the SFTP, so I commented out "Subsystem sftp" in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. Now, I get an error when I try to connect with any user. Konqueror gives me: "Connection to host my.host.edu is broken."
xinetd is running.

I took out the chroot options from vsftpd.conf and that didn't help.

I'm running iptables but I'm not sure whether that has an effect or what I would do.

I'd appreciate advice!

Re: vsftp and sshd

Sftp is part of the SSH suite. It has nothing to do with vsftpd and should not be interfering with it (I have both running on my server, just fine). In fact, I will be phasing out vsftpd since SSH can now do chroots.
