This article may be worth taking a look at, since the robot is open source.

Scary sh!t.... I couldn't find how long it takes though to build something? Even and example, like if it took 2 weeks to build the fly swatter, then it needs a lot more work.

Yes, two weeks would be too long. Anyways, here's the project website: http://reprap.org/bin/view/Main/WebHome
You'll probably notice that the computer in both photos is running Ubuntu Linux.

I heard about this some time ago (ooh, la-di-da!) ; it's an interesting step, though obviously limited at the moment. But with the continued advances in all scientific fields, esp. nanotech, the implications are ...cool.

"If you try to sell a machine that can copy itself you have a problem: you'll only sell one," says Dr Bowyer. "So we're giving the entire design and all the software away free like Linux and Firefox."
hehehe I hope this encourages freely available designs of... small plastic objects?

Unfortunately it isn't really self replicating. It can fabricate all the plastic pieces that make it up, but none of the metal, wires, motors etc etc. But it is really awesome(i <3 hobby robotics, have an micro controller, servos etc). The pictures of it look really cool, and I did notice the gnome desktop as well.
