setting ipv6 address? [SOLVED]

When I attempt to run a command to set the ipv6 address of an interface as in:
ifconfig eth2 inet6 fe80::021e:2aff:fe3e:b6c5 prefixlen 64
I get the response:
Don't know how to set addresses for family 10.

when the interfaces are first loaded however they have ipv6 addresses already set so I know the module is running.  Is there an alternative way to set an ipv6 address or can the above be fixed?

Ok, so it's actually done: ifconfig eth2 add fe80::021e:2aff:fe3e:b6c5/64

that will show me and my unix ways
