I noticed the new arch release has a usb image. Does it support persistance? (If I put it on my flash drive, make changes and reboot, will the changes still be there)

I didn't realize that it would be persistant, thats awsome! Now i don't have to use the old arch .iso on a usb which takes 15 mins to boot on my eee!

Just about to write image to my 4gb flash drive in place of slax.
This sounds perfect. Let's hope it is.

Persistence is not working for me. I tested by creating a folder in root's home. When I reboot, the folder is gone. This still happens after I expand the partition to fill the whole flash drive. I booted the default grub entry.

Raccon1400, on a side note, I have to say that I love your signature ![]()

Maybe it was just intended as an alternative to installing from a CD.
Thanks. Though I have to give credit for the signature to a friend of mine, who made a comment similar to this.

It is not persistent. Why? Like arccoon said, it's just an alternative to installing from CD, and in addition to that, it keeps the image size smaller by not forcing you to require what is esentially empty space.
EDIT: and of course, if you're suggesting that it should be persistent, please do the legwork (see sig). While I don't find this a big thing for our installer, it might still be something good to have in existence to use in other archiso-based projects. Any solution to this should not enlarge the image size to fit another empty partition and filesystem.
The suggestion box only accepts patches.

If I have some time, I will see if I can make it persistent. For now, back to slax for usb.

Persistent USB-stick Arch has been available for quite a while now - the larch scripts support this. You can either build your own system or use one of the existing ready built ones (faunos, and now also AMPArch - http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50742).

This would be fairly simple to change - currently the boot media (cd or usb) is mounted RO via unionfs with a ram-based RW layer. You could fiddle with that and either entirely remove the unionfs mounting, or union it with a disk-based RW layer as well
