How many Archers are registered Linux users?:)
http://counter.li.org/
I thought it was a good project - get some kind of statistics going, given how hard it is to get accurate stats for open source...

Estimates like these are just funny to me: http://counter.li.org/estimates.php
Kind of reminds me of these:

LoL, I like the second one...
It's kind of cool to be able to see the stats on per-country, per-kernel, hardware, uses etc, even if it is only based off those who have registered

Yep. Registered user 433204. But I agree it's all kind of pointless. Susan Linton's column in this month's Linux Format has a small section on user numbers, based mainly on estimates by the various distros themselves: Canonical reckons Ubuntu has "4-6 million", Mandriva says, "several million", etc. So if there are still fewer than 500,000 "registered" users, it's a fairly meaningless number. On the other hand, based on those numbers, the estimate of 29 million seems a bit inflated. 16-20 million would be closer to the mark, counting all the distros Linton has figures for and assuming most of those she doesn't are closer to the Slackware (500,000) and Sabayon (15,000) end than Ubuntu. And that's assuming these figures from the distros are correct, which isn't necessarily the case either.
Bah. Let's just say there are "lots" of Linux users.
I only did it to get the cool "Registered Linux User" PNG... that I've never used in anything.
Edit: fixed dodgy italic tag.
