[Solved] (New) Problems with Openbox

Hi. I'm new to Arch Linux and I was just trying to install openbox to have a extremely quick system but I ran into some problems. The arch installation went smoothly and took about 6 to 7 hours because I was just figuring out a lot of technical terms. Anyway, here's what I can't fix...

I can't make pypanel appear at startup, here's my autostart.sh and my .xinitrc

(sleep 10 && pypanel)
#!/bin/sh
exec openbox-session

I have no idea as to what's wrong. What am I missing?

Next, I can't change de Openbox theme. If I try to run obconf from the menu I get the error "An error ocurred while saving the config file '/home/kruz/.config/openbox/rc.xml'". So I tried to run from the console as root so I can make the changes but when I run it the console displays this

I reinstalled the obconf dependencies but nothing. So I keep on modifying things ignoring the text on the terminal but the new configuration never applies! So far those have the problems I've had, at least it's nothing critical. Thanks for your help and excuse my bad grammar, english is not my first language.

You can try installing gdk-pixbuf.

which login manager are you using?
are you using any desktop enviroment like gnome, kde xfce4 besides openbox?
are .xinitrc and autostart.sh executable? chmod +x .xinitrc
does pypanel/openbox start from console?

Thanks. The pypanel did work this time around but gdk-pixbuf didn't do the trick. I get the same message but now it starts with (obconf:4203) instead of (obconf:4211).

You appear to have left the final '&' out of your pypanel line, so that it runs in the background.

Should it be: (sleep 10 && pypanel) &

Will that make a difference?

I have yet another problem with obconf. After about six fresh arch installations I've just been able to configure X correctly (I think) but I still can't change the Openbox theme with ObConf. First, I have to run it as root otherwise it tells me I don't have permission to change anything. Ok, so I run it as root and the moment it runs the console prints this:

(obconf:3026): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C Library.
                       Using the fallback 'C' locale

Any help?

Fix the permission issue. Running it as root is incorrect.

Sorry. I had read the wiki but I just didn't find anything wrong with creating rc.xml and menu.xml as root (sure, the wiki told me so but I didn't know why). That's the reason I couldn't do any changes. Thanks for helping and sorry for bothering with stupid mistakes.

running obconf as root changes the theme for root , ie under /root/.config/openbox/rc.xml, but not for you as user. though  it might not directly break anything, but it's really really bad practice to run X apps as root.

Hi, I get the same errors as Kruz in the first post for gdk-pixbuf when i type obconf in terminal...I installed gdk-pixbuf but I still have the errors and I don't know what is not working and how to fix it...Do I need to fix this?
