Scnd101 wrote:Failed at installing gnome shell, so I made this instead; wingpanel style
Hi, i tried also to set up a "wingpanel" with the kde panel. But i have one major problem.
I created a new panel, set it to align right. Made a minimum size about the size i will need, and a maxium size for quite the half of the monitor length.
But everytime a new systrayicon will come up, the panel doesn't grow to the left, it just shifts my clock out of the panel. How did you manage this?
I had the same problem. Didn't find a solution.
cinan wrote:Scnd101, Zom - guys, what are your panels on the bottom? I mean the icon-only taskbars.
He's using docky as far as I can tell.
I'm using a patched version of smooth tasks, which has added support for launchers. Here.
To install it, you can just modify the PKGBUILD for smooth-tasks in the AUR. Look for these lines;
__hgroot="http://bitbucket.org/panzi" __hgrepo="smooth-tasks"
and change them to
__hgroot="http://bitbucket.org/jimi312" __hgrepo="smooth-tasks-kde-sc-4.6"
and then just build as normal.
Panzi will merge and update smooth tasks once KDE 4.6 hits the main fedora repos, IIRC.
I can't compile this.

EDIT: Seems to be requiring some KDE 4.6 stuff, I think?

Oh, yes, sorry.
For some reason I assumed everybody was using KDE 4.6. Heh.
Anyhow, the launcher support in libtaskmanager is new in 4.6, so unfortunently, you can't use this with an older version of KDE.
Personally, I use the kde-unstable repo, though be warned, there could be problems there. That said, it's at rc2 right now, so things shouldn't be that unstable.

Even so the stable kde 4.6 is expected at Wendesday so there isn't need for hurry.!

great panel, Scnd101! what's the music player controls and what tray icon theme do you use?

Indeed great panel!
Could you share your plasma theme?
Your theme is oxygen transparent?
Anyway, this is a screenshot-advertisement for KDE

Thanks, the panel (including the icons) is a plasma theme I'm working on, mockup is here. And the widget theme is indeed oxygen-transparent.

It's Covergloobus

Very clean and simple KDE. HAL is not running when the screenshot was taken, thus battery state is not recognized.

@acoples: have you tried to change the chromium icon in kde menu? (via kde menu editor)
Offline
Simply KDE
If someone knows how to change the Chromium icon in the taskbar, I listen to suggestions
I tried all the known ways, but none have worked
The file manager is Dolphin right? How did you configure this appearance?
See, you're unpacking.

Unlock the toolbars, right-click on the selected toolbar, choose "orientation" to "left". Press ctrl+m to hide the menubar and choose a window decoration without a title or buttons (just a small border on all sides of the window). Then just hide the "places" pane.
I suppose.

@ Alm yes it's Dolphin, and I've configured it as Zom says

That's one of the things that I already tried but it didn't worked , thanks for the suggestion anyway

You could try doing it the ugly way and replacing the icon in /usr/share/pixmaps, dunno if it'd work though.

Zom, you wrote about smooth tasks in kde4.6 with launcher support. know that 4.6 is in the repos I tried changing the hg repo. but I get the same error as spupy. You have a glue whats missing? Old smooth task will also not work with the new kde.

Actually, I noticed this too and filed a bug: here.
Seems like an API change, and jimi312 said he's working on it.

I've also tried that but unfortunately it didn't worked
I think it's something inside the application itself, maybe in the source code, I don't know

I notice that with gtk applications, not found a way yet to change these icons in the taskbar

I updated to 4.6, still compilation problem. The normal smooth-tasks (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29410) somehow got launcher support after I recompiled them with 4.6 installed. Sadly, the launchers appear with no icon and don't work. The normal kde taskbar plasmoid also has launcher support now, and it works. Not as good as Windows 7's taskbar, however, since the launchers and the windows mix and sort in ways mysterious to me.

See above. I know that the original smooth-tasks work, but the launcher-support is broken in that one and panzi doesn't want to fix it until it's available in the main fedora repos. However:
Seems like an API change, and jimi312 said he's working on it.
And he's fixed it! Go get it while it's still hot.
Again, just change these lines:
__hgroot="http://bitbucket.org/panzi"
__hgrepo="smooth-tasks"
to:

__hgrepo="smooth-tasks-kde-sc-4.6"

patch for smoothtask was just released, thanks Zom that you reported the bug. Zom antoher question for smoothtask, it seems that not all application are supported for launchersupport. for example firefox. can you confirm that?

I have no problem with firefox, apart from the fact that when not launched the launcher icon is the Konqueror icon. But I still won't use it because I can't make the launchers and the apps keep order as I tell them.
