Re: KDE/Plasma Screenshots

My laptop would melt from all this awesomeness... No really, it would overheat, hence why for performance reasons I use fluxbox.

You KDE folks have some very flashy desktops though, thats for sure.

Re: KDE/Plasma Screenshots

That's the amazing thing about Arch Linux.  You can make it your own!  The reason I love the Plasma environment is how user friendly it is.  My old folks can easily do what they want and they sometimes amaze me how they find stuff that I didn't even know about.

I would be quite interested in your opinions on this switch in a few weeks' time. I have been considering the same move for the past couple of months, but have never got around to it. I am interested in whether you're more satisfied, or had to tweak a bunch of things to be satisfied, or you move back to OpenBox.

Thanks in advance for any information you may provide going forward.

Re: KDE/Plasma Screenshots

Well I switched my laptop and work desktop over first, and used those for a few weeks beforehand. It took a little bit of work to get the mouse/keyboard shortcuts how I like them, and I just found that the compositor doesn't handle fullscreen wine games as well as compton does (an easy workaround -- just add a rule to disable compositing when launching a wine app). It'd be nice if there was a way to outright disable the wallet (which doesn't seem to work with gpg encyption, and doesn't remember passwords if I set it up with blowfish), but that's just a minor niggle.

All-in-all, it's a nice change after using openbox for ~5 years.

Re: KDE/Plasma Screenshots

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I have it installed and sometimes boot into it (a second user account) just to see how it's progressing. But so far I have resisted full committal.

I may end up taking the plunge soon, though!
