Sharing a connection between two boxes

I have only one ethernet port in my room, but two computers. If I get a second NIC for one of them, can I set it up such that the other computer can plug into that and act as if it was effectively plugged into the port?

Most of the tutorials out there seem to be about creating full-fledged routers, but I don't want anything as complex as that. I'd prefer to have both machines receive individual IPs from the campus DHCP server, rather than assigning one machine a local address.

Easiest since you'd need to purchase a new NIC anyway, would be to just get a switch. A router would give you even more options though, but a switch would be cheaper if your on a budget (10-20$ off ebay probably).
