kmail runs fine for me (more stable than the older), but i use

the only time, kmail needs more cpu, is when emails are piped to spamassasin (100%)

it is somehow only on ftp.archlinux.org and probably on one or 2 mirrors - most mirrors do not have it (i have a rotating script and after 6 tries, it fell back to ftp.archlinux.org and then it was in the db)

mmmm, I already have a spamassassing running in my system to scan all mails and then I read them trough imap in kmal, is kmail running another spamassassin process maybe? I can not see any options there...

also I got a lot of these errors in .xsession-errors:

no, i pipe all incoming email to spamassasin - kmail has nothing per default in it (as far i know)

that's most probably your problem - i don0t get such warnings

Re: kde 3.3

I think something was (is) messed up with KMail piping through spamassasin. Check http://bugs.kde.org > most hated bugs (or somewhere else)
(or do a search for "KMail" and "spamassasin" in the DB)

I don't really remember but people were complaining about this.
This might be fixed though, I don't really know.

Thanks for the hint. I got it to work by putting the "Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/extra/os/i686" at the top in /etc/pacman.d/extra

i have found this: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83567

but that's with the kmail in kde 3.2.3 that worked good for me, quite strange, I will try to investigate what the hell is happening...

I feel this kde release slower than 3.2.3, buttons and windows are rendering slower, mmm, maybe is time to downgrade for me...

try changing the look (themes) to a simpler one - this should make the buttons render faster

I have been using baghira style, maybe it ihas to be ported to qt 3.3 and kde 3.3, will try plastik. Also I read that removing the .index in the kmail directory sometimes fixes strange behaviors in kmail, will tell later.

Re: kde 3.3

Thanks cmf for your good job !

My upgrade was going well and all apparently work. All ? hmmm... Since I upgraded KDE (to 3.3 of course ;-)) I got big problem with arts. This is simple : I use PekWM with no sound daemon and I can listen xmms, iRate or whaterver. But when I start KDE, all sound stop. I can't have sound under KDE.

So, I quite KDE -> no sound
I kill arts server -> no sound

The only way I can get sound back is reboot  sad

Any Idees ?

Re: kde 3.3

perhaps kde muted your mixer down
try kmix to set the volumes of your channels
and check if not a special feature of your soundcard is activated during kde initialisation
what tells the console when you try to listen to a file?

Re: kde 3.3

Oh, another person with sound problems... The solution follows (at least it worked for me).

I personally don't know if it's a problem with KDE or the latest alsa drivers.
After experiencing the no-sound feeling but everything works (=no errors, progress bars filling and so on), I've deleted + added again the Sound Mixer Applet in one of my panels. I also made all the channels appear on it. Then I've thought, ok.. now that everything is made loud, I might be missing something. I started right clicking on each channel, until I got to DAC (Digital to Analog Convertor) channel... and.. surprise! Check/Uncheck mute for it... or "Set record source" gives my sound back.

I thought that was really weird and I don't know if I should blame KDE for this. It might be an alsa problem because it was also updated almost at the same time. I think tuning your mixer volumes from KMix or alsamixer also will fix your problem.

My problem is that the status of the DAC channel is not saved (I think) by the alsamixer script in the Wiki page, and I have to manually reenable sound (with the above method) after each reboot.

Hope that helps...

Re: kde 3.3

Getting a message from Kontact "Cannot load part for calendar".
Maybe this is related -- Korganizer does not load.

Anybody others experience here?

Re: kde 3.3

I *think* there were some problems with KOrganizer in KDE 3.3rc*, but I'm not sure if they were fixed in the release. You might want to have a look at http://bugs.kde.org

As another idea: try making a backup of the korganizer settings dir (somewhere in ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer (I think)) and remove the originals (the files in the previous path) afterwards. Maybe it starts with a clean calendar, maybe your calendar got corrupted.

Re: kde 3.3

No files at ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer.
Directory exists but is empty.

Tried running korganizer in root terminal (and user terminal) and the response is:korganizer: error while loading shared libraries: libknewstuff.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Re: kde 3.3

# pacman -Qo /opt/kde/lib/libknewstuff.so.1
/opt/kde/lib/libknewstuff.so.1 is owned by kdelibs 3.3.0-1

Reinstall kdelibs!

P.S. I hope you did a full install of KDE (I mean, everything 3.3.0, nothing remaining from 3.2.3)

Thanks very much.  Problem resolved.

Would not have thought of kdelibs.  A google for libknewstuff said it  came from kdepim.
