Having troubles setting up wireless internet under Virtual Box

Hi again >_> im trying to setup my wireless internet so I can well download stuff wirelessly.. I have my hardwired network setup but router is in a  room i dont have access to all the time.. here is what Virtual box gives me to use for adapters

1.PCNet-PCI II (AM79C970A)
2.PCNET-FAST III (AM79C973)
*This is my currently mounted Adapter, Attached to Host Interface under en0 Built-in ethernet.. this is what I used for wired internet
3.INTEL PRO/MT 1000 Desktop (82540EM)
4.INTEL PRO/T 1000 Server (82543GC)

Like posted up there, PCNET-FAST III is the one I use for hardwired but I dunno how to set it up for wireless. Are there other packages I need to install besides wireless_tools? I already installed that.

Re: Having troubles setting up wireless internet under Virtual Box

Ummmm...is your Arch installed in a virtual machine or is it the host machine? If it's in a virtual machine, you will always just set up the PCNET or Intel adapters that you listed. You can't set up wireless (at least not to my knowledge) in a virtual machine. Your physical machine will have wired and/or wireless setup, which then is tied to the various 'wired' adapters in the virtual machine. Clear as mud?  smile

Hope that answered your question.

Re: Having troubles setting up wireless internet under Virtual Box

Aw man seriously? I thought I could since under network adapters for choices I can choose built in ethernet, airport, or parallel (airport being wireless) so I just assumed I could do it. But yeah I get it. Thanks heh

EDIT: Apparantly.. Vbox DOES support wireless internet.. this is what I did no lie.. I went into my network adapters on Vbox window, I chose PCNET-PCI II, set it up for host interface, and hit Airport.. now Im on arch linux i didnt CONFIGURE anything.. I used pacman to download some files without thinking about plugging in my ethernet cord.. I HAVE WIRELESS!! lol but yeah Vbox supports it for guest OS's

Re: Having troubles setting up wireless internet under Virtual Box

I'm glad you got it working . . . . but you're still not actually using wireless in your virtual machine. Your virtual machine has a virtual ethernet (wired) adapter (the PCNET-PCI II), which communicates to your host machine's internet connection -- in this case via your (real) Airport card. But your real connection could technically be anything: wired, wireless, bluetooth, modem, etc. And, luckily for us, VirtualBox makes it extremely easy to hook up your virtual machines to the network!
