Unless you switch to the open source driver, no.

I'm pretty sure that you didn't update catalyst-total-hd234k to version 13.1-28, because there I fixed conflict with ati-dri.

@vipo:
is this some kind of pxp notebook?
AMD often had problems with mobile gpus... Have you tried catalyst 14.9 + [xorg115] repo?

Yup it s a laptop with integrated intel 3000 + amd 7690m xt graphics.

I know it worked fine with Xorg 1.15 so i am downgrading now and re-installing the catalyst drivers (i removed them). I will report back.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have been running a dell E6440 for about a year now. and it has

VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller
Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M] (rev ff)

I have gotten it to work with the xf86-video-intel/xf86-video-ati
I can not get it to work with the catalyst-pxp (repo nor aur)

I get the "No supported adapters detected issue".
I tried to edit the xorg.conf to no avail (amdccle does not see the card)

Funny thing is that this computer can come with ubuntu pre-loaded from dell.

i don't have anything added to grub's default boot file "/etc/default/grub"
and in "mkinitcpio.conf" i have these settings

(...)
MODULES="crc32c-intel radeon i915 atkbd"
(...)

You're absolutely right. I updated the package to 13.1-28 and after everything worked!

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

install also xf86-video-intel (2.99.910-1 version, you can find it in [xorg115] repo) and intel-dri, maybe it will help

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I finally was able to produce a screenshot of some artifacts. The artifacts I sporadically saw looked completely different, but anyways, this is proof smile

Nowadays I don't see as many artifacts as some weeks ago, but this proofs they are still there. Any ideas what might be wrong with my configuration? I do have the following packages installed:

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Not sure if this should belong here or on in the Multimedia and Games section. Long time lurker, just registered smile

I have laptop with Intel HD graphics and AMD/ATI 6770m graphics card. I am trying to run a 27inch 1440p monitor via HDMI (only have HDMI/VGA port available on the laptop).

I managed to run 2560x1440@45Hz using the intel driver by using xrandr and setting the custom mode. I then tried to use the catalyst driver, hoping i could hit 60Hz, but i cannot even set the mode with xrandr.

I add the mode in xrandr, i set it and when i do a 'xrandr' it has the * next to it but its not set.

Below is my xorg.conf:

The resolution does not seem to change, it stretchs a bit horizontally (where the right hand side of my screen goes off the screen - as in the mouse disappears on that side). I've tried numerous xorg.conf files, different settings and nothing will work sad

The monitor is a Korean monitor (same as the QNIX varient) that supports 1440p. Trying to push anything above 45Hz using the Intel driver displays an error message Configure CRTC 0 failed. If i could do 55-60Hz using the Intel driver, i wouldnt even try the catalyst driver.

Can someone please help me? If i can do 2560x1400@45Hz using the Intel card, why cant i even do this using the catalyst driver? I googled as much as i could, but nothing, it seems that for some reason using xrandr with catalyst doesnt seem to work for me.

Thank you.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

We have a machine with a Radeon 3000 GPU that connects to a TV. The catalyst-hd234k drivers, installed from the unofficial repo, are a must for this machine because the monitor resists all attempts to use the open source driver.  Among other things, it runs pipelight, which requires lib32-libgl. Back on 10/4 I started a thread at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 2#p1464192 because I was unable to safely update. The original thread pointed me to the maintainer. Following this route leads me to here, where the question appears to be included by another.

For convenience, here is the output again:

lib32-catalyst-libgl 13.1-8
lib32-catalyst-utils 13.1-7
lib32-opencl-catalyst 13.1-7
opencl-catalyst 13.1-7

(All installed from the Unofficial User Repo.)

There appears to be yet another posting of this question at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=187532, which, based on its short life, was related to the testing repo - not used by me.

Should I continue to postpone upgrading this machine, or is there a methodical work-around.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Thanks for the head up, lib32-catalyst-utils 13.1-10 should fix this.
I have also found an old bug (packaging bug which showed up after some pacman update, not functional bug) in this pkg so I fixed it, if its claiming about conflicting files (like /usr/lib32/libAMDXvBA.so.1) then you can safely overwrite them, or remove conflicting files before an update.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

heads up. looks like the latest version of GNOME that just dropped (3.14) is incompatible with Catalyst. not only does GDM fail to start with this version, so does gnome-session itself.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=188475

EDIT: this bug had me switch to the open source radeon drivers, but looks like I get better performance across the board with those. I don't even want to go back now!

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

If only the OSS drivers supported FullRGB over HDMI I would switch, too sad

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I wish ATI would just fix the Catalyst drivers so they could use KMS and all the other features. Either that or fund the writing of open-source drivers that could finally render their dodgy proprietary ones obsolete.

I can't get GNOME 3.14 to load either, same fatal error, and it's only been since 3.12 that I've been impressed enough with it to make the switch away from Cinnamon. I tried switching to the open-source drivers to see if that would fix the GNOME issue, and it turns out that they won't run at all. Black screen because I have to disable KMS. I had a bit of success with them a few months back.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

@zoqaeski
You probably need to remove all the catalyst packages and then install the open-source driver. For some reason even though there's no dependency conflict between them they won't run unless catalyst is fully removed idk why.

And btw. gnome 3.14 with catalyst's broken for me too :<

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Hi, I'm trying to use an HD 8730M with an Intel HD4000 on a HP 840 G1, but I'm really unable to use the AMD card, when I'm using PRIME with Open Source drivers, if I launch for example steam, it just show horrible glitches. So I tested the Proprietary drivers : I had exactly the same problem as vipo while I'm using Xorg 16 (with fglrx(0): failed to map MMIO register space!(EE) fglrx(0): MapMMIO failed )
So, I downgraded to Xorg 15 and now, if I switch to the AMD card with pxp_switch_catalyst (the Intel card still works good), the computer blink for a second and came back ont the TTY and I'm unable to do anything, I can't go to another TTY, I'm just able to stop the system with the power button.
The bad thing is that it doesn't write anything in the log and it doesn't write anything if I redirect the output on a file !
It's a very bad description of the problem but I can't give you anything more.. Would you have some ideas ? Thanks !

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

For AMD APUs, can they only use xf86-video-ati or will they also benefit from using the proprietary drivers?

My computer has only an AMD A-10;

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Just have to say that all my problems went away with Xorg 1.16 and kernel 3.16 smile
So, no more overheats, laptop cold start temperature is 38C, on load about 56C which is incredible compared to what I had earlier.
It seems that radeon.dpm=0 is no longer needed, I haven't seen old issue yet with washed out stripes. And on top of all that, brightness controls are now working natively, no more flickering and lag when changing brightness with fn+f5/f6, then, I can switch to external display modes (cloned, single, etc.) without having to reboot system, as I had with fglrx. I hope it will stay like this in future smile
My laptop is ASUS K55N-DS81 with APU A8-4500M and HD7640G graphics.

M8 I have the same hardware configuration.

Now using Arch + KDE and Arch + XFCE without problems with Vi0l0's Catalyst-hook packages.

However I'm able to run GNOME 3.14 only with open source drivers. Overheat problems are gone, but actually I get some problems of power consumption: laptop's battery life is still better with Catalyst (using amdconfig --px-igpu and battery oriented power management).

Do you are using some power management configuration with open drivers? I tried dpm + poweroff discrete gpu (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI#Powersaving) but I'm unable to set battery mode, and overall battery life isn't very good.

I can't start gnome with gdm 3.14, I have to use 3.10 to start it.
I have an HP-pavillion with hybrid graphic Ati/Intel. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to solve it?
