[Solved]Setting up Compaq W200 Wireless adaptor -- installing firmware

I previously had Ubuntu installed on my Compaq Evo N400c, and I was able to successfully get the wireless working by following this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD … CompaqW200

I figured I'd be able to get it working under Arch in a similar way, so I started doing it and was okay until I got to the part where you have to place the firmware. The command they have is:

sudo cp orinoco_ezusb_fw /lib/firmware/`uname -r`/

Arch doesn't seem to do firmware in the same way as Ubuntu. What would be the correct way to get the firmware in place under Arch? Or will there be other problems with doing this? Thanks.

Re: [Solved]Setting up Compaq W200 Wireless adaptor -- installing firmware

There should be a package for this, one moment whilst I find it.
Well, there isn't a firmware package for that card, unfortunately. I think you need a dev here, but I can tell you that the firmware for my broadcom card is in... /lib/firmware/b43, so yours would go in /lib/firmware/orinoco_ezusb_fw
Hope that helps.

Beyond that, getting the driver to autoload is as simple as putting it in the MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf, and netcfg should be useful for managing it if you're connecting to one or two networks regularly. If you roam, you probably want NetworkManager or Wicd.

Thanks, I'll try doing that, see if it works

EDIT: It seems to have worked. Thanks!
