partitioning scheme for mysql server

I am building a dedicated server for a program that has heavy MySQL usage. The server has 3x146GB drives with a hardware RAID controller.

What would the best partitioning scheme be for this server? I need something that will be very stable and fast. The read and write amounts will be similar, so both read and write speeds are important. We have external backup in place, but I would also prefer to have a filesystem that is error-resistant.

Thanks in advance!

Re: partitioning scheme for mysql server

I'd say you want separate partitions for atleast /, /usr,/opt, and /var. Probably one for /home, too. I'd definately isolate the filessytem where all of the work will occur onto it's own partition to reduce fragmentation on the others.
