installed arch64, all ports are closed?

I installed arch64 a few days ago, and today while trying the bittorrent client transmission, i realized that all the ports are closed. I installed 32bit arch numerous times before and I remember being able to use torrents right away. Its not a problem with just transmission, it does it with every other torrent client too. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Hmm, for me it worked out of the box. If that happens with all clients, the problem might be somewhere else. Maybe you need to forward the ports in your router, or change iptables settings (if it's installed). Are there any problems with other things, like browsing or SSH?

I'm sorry I can't come up with something more helpful yet, I'm learning iptables too ATM.

Have you changed routers since your last install? If so, perhaps it needs configuring?

I can use the internet just fine, it seems that torrents are the only thing not working. My brother can download torrrents using his vista computer, so Im not sure the router is the issue. Plus it wasnt changed since last time. This is really weird, should I just try to reinstall arch?

Naa... Not yet.

Maybe transmission has different ports set for torrent traffic, so you could try changing the (Arch) ports to the ones Windows uses.

EDIT: In transmission preferences, you can check whether the port is open and listening.

And the obvious question: you didn't install iptables or another firewall during arch-install, did you?

And no, I didnt install any firewalls or iptables.

Nah, I vote for the program / router settings. Most probably the torrent client you are using now has a different port configured for incoming traffic. Check which port(s) are forwarded in your router and check the program settings. I'm using deluge and when I have no incoming connections thats always the problem.
