dunno if this is isolated for me only, but does anyone else have this same problem?
i open up gnome-terminal, and without typing anything else if i press backspace it will flash the screen.
it does it with xterm too, but not with konsole.
does anyone else have this problem?
This "problem" is the visual bell option. Rather than making your computer beep, the term just flashes. You can try this one too, start vim and hit esc repeatedly. Do you see the flashes?
One of my favourite is 'echo -e \a' and, by extension, 'while true; do echo -e \a; done'

One way to get rid of it is to run 'xset -b' after X is started (e.g. from ~/.xinitrc)
All of your mips are belong to us!!
another way is to run a real terminal like aterm or rxvt.
