Atheros AR5001X+ PCI, very poor performance

I bought TP-Link wireless card with Atheros AR5001X+ chipset to my workstation. Arch detected it automatically and automatically loaded ath5k module and 2mins after card installation I was connected. Very nice.

But then I noticed performance problems. Bitrate seems to "pump" between 1-36Mbps and link quality shows 70/100. If try to download something from my server I get only about 500kt/s and even SSH shell is sluggish. If I put my laptop with Intel 3945 behind my workstation next to workstations wlan antenna I get 100/100 signal quality and 54Mbit bitrate and it doesn't change if I download something big from my server (transfer rate ~2MB/s). AP is about 1-2m away behind a wall..

So is there a way to kick more speed to my workstation wireless or did I just buy crappy card?

Re: Atheros AR5001X+ PCI, very poor performance

Hmm kernel update from pacman made things better, speed is still a bit slow but ssh ain't sluggish anymore.

Then I read about ath5k beingin completly rewritten FOSS version of earlier driver so I understand if it has some problems. Anyways I got impression that 2.6.18 kernel will fix most of the problems so I think I'll wait some updates smile

Re: Atheros AR5001X+ PCI, very poor performance

Strange. The new kernel (.29) made it possible for me to use the built-in ath9k-driver. Before I had to use ndiswrapper to get a decent, stable connection.

Now my signal quality has gone up from ~65% to ~80% with ath9k (2.6.29) vs ndiswrapper (2.6.28). I must add that I'm using the beta wpa_supplicant from AUR, but I don't think that will add to the stability of the connection...

Zl.
