This laptop card isn't working properly for me. I need to change mac address but when İ run the command:
sudo ıfconfıg wlan0 down hw ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
the machine hangs and displays lengthy output with lines beginning with
[<ffffffff80475bea>]
or similar and ends with
---[ end trace 8127ce07deac8e4a ]---
I'm using compat-wıireless drivers. Thıs setup has worked for me previously in Ubuntu.
Thanks

sorry for the double post but I thought I should mention that my machıne is up to date as of yesterday (when the wireless connection worked) and also I had to use acpi=off when I installed arch, not sure if that's related but just in case.
I'm at a loss for what to do at the moment since I can't find any info on this problem.

This chipset should be work out of the box with 2.6.27 kernel. I have the same and works fine.
Bus 005 Device 004: ID 0bda:8189 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
Do you have rtl8187 module loaded?
Excuse my poor English.

yeah I think you're right agapito I needn't have used the compat-wireless stuff. I uninstalled it and loaded the rtl8187 module and it seems to be working perfectly.
Thanks

But I'm using it with ndiswrapper and WinXP drivers. Works better. With ndiswrapper i can download 800 KBs with native module only 300 KBs

hmm yeah after further testing the native driver is a bit dodgy. Can I use 32 bit win xp or vista drivers on my 64-bit install with ndiswrapper?
Offline
NO. Only 32 bits. I tried both, 32 and 64 bits XP Drivers on Archlinux64 and crashes.
I have installed both versions of Arch 32 and 64. With Arch 32 I use ndiswrapper, with 64 bits native module.
Anyways 64 bits systems demands more Memory and performance is not much better than 32 bits.
Excuse my poor English.

Oh well looks like I'll have to use Arch 32 then. Thanks for the clarification.
