Sony ericsson W800i - connecting with Bluetooth

I want to transfer my music and pictures from and to my Sony Ericsson w800i mobile phone, using my laptop's bluetooth connection. It's a Dell E5400.

I'm kinda lost... the wiki only explains how to use a dongle, not a built in bluetooth device.

Re: Sony ericsson W800i - connecting with Bluetooth

I have Thunar configured to send files to my W880i.

First off, you need bluez-gnome installed. Then open Thunar and go to the second menu on the top and choose 'Configure alternative actions' (or something like that).

Then you add a custom action to send stuff to your phone. You may need to define the allowed file types to prevent the action from appearing on every file you right-click on (but that's largely personal preference).

Afaik there's no configuration needed. The backend will check for available devices (or devices it previously connected with) and present you with a list you can pick one from.

Re: Sony ericsson W800i - connecting with Bluetooth

You still might need to tinker some with /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf though. And run hcitool scan to see if your phone is found by the system (I have a laptop here). Built-in bluetooth or a separate dongle shouldn't matter.

[stijn@hermes ~]$ hcitool scan
Scanning ...
    xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx W880i

Re: Sony ericsson W800i - connecting with Bluetooth

% hcitool scan
% Device is not available: No such device

maybe it's not compatible with Linux?

note: the phone detects the laptop, so bluetooth is up and running.

Re: Sony ericsson W800i - connecting with Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a standard. There's no such thing as being 'compatible'. If it supports the standard it should be able to interact with whatever other device supporting the same standard. There may be version differences (Bluetooth 2.0 is the latest afaik) but it should be backwards, well... compatible.

Re: Sony ericsson W800i - connecting with Bluetooth

well I solved the issue by using a dongle. No configuration was necessary...

still, I want to use the internal bluetooth device. I paid for it after all lol
