[Solved] Dell latitude d620 - intel i945 - xorg help

Hello.

I am a newbie to arch but not to linux.

I have a dell latitude d620 and lspci reports intel i945. I installed xf86-video-intel and synaptics (for the touchpad) from pacman, and of course the entire xorg group, hwd and awesome (WM).

startx does not work.

No devices found - no screens found.

X -configure, Xorg -configure failed (don't even ask about xorgconfig)

hwd -xa ... crashes on the xorg.conf.i810

The xorg.conf.vesa produces a black screen (pure black, no artifacts) with an X cursor, which moves with touchpad input. No xterm, xclock  (the xinitrc file shows these).

The other errors are missing module type1 (commented as per instructions), missing module record. It was missing module i810 until I installed the intel driver.

Could someone please help?

If it's any help, here's my xorg.conf file from my Dell D610 with an Intel 915:

(I'm not that good with configuring xorg either, so I'm not sure if it will help)

could you post the xorg.conf that X -configure / xorg -configure out put and the error log of X when starting with those?

Re: [Solved] Dell latitude d620 - intel i945 - xorg help

Hey guys, thanks for the reply.
X -configure generated a 0 byte file.
Xorg -configure caused a black screen and a frozen cursor.

I found a problem : hwd -xa produced the driver name i810 for intel. The name is now "intel". On editing that I now have a screen. smile

Should this info be given to whoever leads hwd development, and if so, how?

I just ran into the same problem on my desktop. I filed a bug for it: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12813
