There is no option for xv output anymore, it defaults to the slow x11 output, is there a reason for this?
As I can tell from the PKGBUILD, there were no significant changes, that could cause this loss of functionality.

I noticed this on my new notebook with a NVidia video card in it. After updating my other notebook, the Sony with an Intel 915 graphics, I see it lost the option as well.
I'm lead to believe it's something in the 0.9.8a-4 package. Perhaps a bug report in order...

Did you try to re-compile it with ABS?

I noticed the same problem with vlc 0.9.8a-4. I'm using SDL output for now.
Edit: I installed the vlc-embeddedvideo 0.9.8a-5 from aur and it has xvideo as output
