I just tried installing on a friends machine and he has an ATI card. I have installed the catalyst drivers
The install went fine but now when I try to start X, I get a black screen with a mouse pointer. Once I get that I cannot do anything but a hard reset.
aticonfig --initial gives me this
[root@arch]#aticonfig --initial
Uninitialised file found, configuring
Segmentation fault
I checked the log files
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "EE"
and I get nothing as a result indicating that there are no errors
I don't know what else to try.

looks like an issue I had, couldn't generate an xorg.conf on setup like that. Used this thread to get one.

I trust Microsoft about as far as I can comfortably spit a dead rat.

Ok. Using hwd to generate th X atleast gave me a usable X that is once X starts I can move the mouse pointer.
but I cannot use the fglrx drivers. I am currently using vesa drivers. At this time all I want is to get to an openbox session. I will deal with proprietary drivers later
