Hi there,
I have installed Apache, php and mysql according to the wiki and everything seemed to go fine, I added httpd and mysqld to the daemons section of rc.conf and whilst Apache loads up fine mysql fails everytime.
Once the system has loaded if I run the following
# /etc/rc.d/mysqld stop
# /etc/rc.d/mysqld start
It starts up and appears to work fine, but i would prefer it to start at boot.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have searched the forums and it doesn't seem to be a problem that anyone else has had
thanks for any help that can be offered
Mike

Have you tried putting mysqld later in you DAEMONS array? Or not backgrounding daemons? I'm guessing something has not finished loading before you try starting mysql during bootup.

Hi there,
No matter where i put it in the Daemons it always fails on boot, I have tried it as the first and last in rc.conf

Maybe this thread and bug are related:

Thanks for your replies,
It now works after re-installing mysql, as you correctly identified it was a bug (that appears to have now been fixed) apologies for wasting your time, I assumed that it was something that I was doing wrong, or had failed to do.
Thank you for your help

I have this same problem. ver 5.0.77-1 (on x86_64) I reinstall and everything is fine UNTIL I have a database set up (one i need for work) ...... after that, it fails on first run again, making me have to stop and start it after every boot. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?! It only started when the package upgraded to the one mentioned above.

Didn't work for me either. I've tried a few different "solutions" and none of them worked,

I am having the same problem: mysqld fails to start at boot, and I can't start it manually either. Nothing has helped so far.
Sadly it's also keeping me from using MythTV

it didn't for me
FAIL error at boot , but Mysql seems to start and works even if it fails.
Starting Mysql after the boot gives DONE message.
