wierd samba issue

well, i swear, samba is one i always have problems with, every update, something.

anyway, my problem is, samba doesnt start properly during boot, it doesn't fail, but it just doesnt work. i have to login and restart it manually, then it works. just wondering if i'm the only one having this issue since the last update?

Re: wierd samba issue

Do you have any messages in the logs?

Could it be that samba depends on something that hasn't yet loaded on your system?

aside from the cups thing, everything looks normal. i really dont want it trying to share printers, since i dont have any, i dont remember having anything about print sharing in my smb.conf the last time i reconfigured it. but even with teh cups thing it was working 100% until it was updated the other day. now i have to restart samba after login for clients to access it

The default is to load printers, so unless you specifically turn it off, it'll try to set up any configured printers for sharing.
Try the following in your smb.conf :

load printers = no

I don't know that it will fix the startup issue, but it should at least get rid of the CUPS error, and maybe speed up the samba startup as well.  It sounds like Samba is starting before CUPS and can't connect, since it ( CUPS ) isn't yet started.

Re: wierd samba issue

cups isnt starting at all, i have not printers

i checked my smb.conf, i didn't have printers disabled. i also ended up finding the following link last night googling the error. it was hard since almost all the results were posts from people trying to get printers working, not trying to disable them altogether

http://www.davekb.com/browse_computer_t … server:txt

but that seems to have resolved that error, and samba restarts alot quicker now, i havent rebooted yet to see if it works properly on startup, but im thinking maybe it was hanging on startup and thats why it didn't work until i restarted it manually
