"Downloading packages" during installation ... extremely slow!

I'm on the step where Arch downloads packages from a server. I chose a Swedish server since I'm in Norway.

It takes forever, and it only downloads at a speed of 2-5 kb/s. Can I quit the installation and start over?

Also, I chose XFS for my primary Linux partition ( or / ). Is it good or should I choose something else?

have you tried a different server, and are you sure that you set your network up correctly.  if you set it to use dhcp, it should be fine.

Do I need to start the installation over to choose a different server? I set it to use DHCP.

Re: "Downloading packages" during installation ... extremely slow!

Well you can wait it out...or simply hit Ctrl + Z to stop it and change mirrors and then install it again -- the packages that have already been downloaded will not be downloaded again since they will be in you /var

I think you need python installed to use rankmirrors:

cd /etc/pacman.d
cp mirrorlist mirrorlist.backup
rankmirrors -n 6 mirrorlist.backup > mirrorlist

How do I get ">" on a Norwegian keyboard layout. It's a US keyboard, so I don't think it's possible.

hold on. You can manually edit the mirrorlist file and change the mirrors. you dont have to re-install because of that

Stalker72

Your question doesn't make sense.
Are you trying to use a US keyboard and apply a Norwegian keyboard layout to it?
If so, it probably won't work well and be more trouble than it's worth.
If it's a US keyboard, use the US keyboard layout.
If you want to use a Norwegian keyboard, try and find yourself one and use the Norwegian layout where it would apply..
Dunno the prices of keyboards where you are, here they're dirt cheap and can be picked up in second hand shops all day long.
I wouldn't have a clue what a Norwegian keyboard would even look like but I thought that < and > are universal and would be on all keyboards.

I chose another mirror this time, but I get the same speeds. Shall I just wait overnight and see what happens?

There is one on mine too, but if I pick the Norwegian layout, it doesn't produce that symbol.

Aah.. so you have a US keyboard and are using the Norwegian layout. You can either go back to US layout until you finish installation I guess... I am not sure where the > sign key is in a norwegian layout.

Re: "Downloading packages" during installation ... extremely slow!

I have turned my keyboard (us) into a norwegian one - and darned if I can find <> ...
I believe they have an extra key where <> are lower/upper case respectively.
As long as you have a us keyboard - for goodness sake, stick with that. You can always change later.
I use the following in my .bashrc:
alias keybno='setxkbmap no'
alias keybus='setxkbmap us'

As for download speeds - it could all be on your side (your isp) - in which case it's something you have to live with.
