Hi All
I am having great difficulty to bring up the networkmanager icon so that i can connect wireless to my router. these are the present state of my Dell inspiron 8600 laptop.
I follows the instructions from the http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
#NETWORKS=(main)
eth0="dhcp"
eth1="dhcp" # Wireless interface
#wlan_eth1="eth1 essid MarcWireless"
INTERFACES=(lo !eth0 !eth1)
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# DAEMONS
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
# - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
#
DAEMONS=(@syslog-ng @cpufreq !network @netfs @crond @alsa dbus hal dhcdbd networkmanager @cups @fam @bluetooth @autofs !xdm)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what I get when i run the following
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ sudo killall nm-applet
Password:
nm-applet: no process killed
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ nm-applet &
[1] 3384
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ nm-applet: symbol lookup error: nm-applet: undefined symbol: dbus_method_dispatcher_new
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ /etc/rc.d/networkmanager restart
:: Stopping NetworkManager [FAIL]
:: Starting NetworkManager [FAIL]
[rombel@marclinux ~]$
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ /etc/rc.d/dhcdbd start
:: Starting the DBUS DHCP Client [FAIL]
[rombel@marclinux ~]$
I had my wireless before which I got help from the newbie section and i post herehttp://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63845 but i did an upgrade and most things got crash. so I downgrade by doing this
[rombel@marclinux ~]$ sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/gnome-network-manager-0.6.5-1.pkg.tar.gz
any help please

You can always try wicd instead if changing application is an option. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wicd

Rather old thread...
Actually I had this problem too, for me it went away when I changed the gtk and/or icon themes in the appearance preferences.
