Finding the IP of my wireless spot.

I have a problem with my wireless router.

First of all, it's completely unencrypted.

The handbook says that it should have a specific ip adress when I reset it, but it's not the ip adress specified. How do I find the correct ip?

Re: Finding the IP of my wireless spot.

If you are getting connected to it, via wire or wireless, then just check your default gateway on your machine.  Chances are the IP will be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.  Not many consumer level routers have default IP addresses in the 10 or 172.16 subnets.

Re: Finding the IP of my wireless spot.

Thanks for the quick reply. But I kinda already knew that, and it's not working! It's a linksys wireless router. It can not be connected to with wire.

Re: Finding the IP of my wireless spot.

You still haven't said whether you are connected to it or not.

I'm connected to the internet, but I still can not get access to my wireless access point setup through the suggested ip adresses.

I managed to set the encryption through Windows. But I had to use propriatary software.... (Cisco software)

I don't like this...!

Re: Finding the IP of my wireless spot.

Are you connected to the internet through that router? As I said before, if you are you should be able to just look at your default gateway.  Failing that, look at your ip and run a ping sweep with nmap.  Say your ip is 192.168.1.103, you'd do this:

nmap -sP 192.168.1.103/24

Chances are you'll be able to find your router with this command.
