ty for the tip
but i still need to configure SLiM
ect/ shows up after i press tab but i still can't cd into it so i can get to etc/inittab
Also do I have to make my inittab file completely myself? because I figured that I was doing it wrong because each time I edited it, it said new file at the bottom. or how do i properly install SLiM?

Re: [SOLVED] problems with cd

you shouldn't have to create /etc/inittab, it should be there already.
what if you type ls /etc/ can you see the inittab file?
it seems you like to write ect instead of etc, be careful about this, this is maybe why you're creating new files. again, you should use tab completion

/edit: for your question about installing slim, I'll suggest:
