USB drive auto-unmounts -- is this HAL again?

I started a movie ...then paused it and came back after an hour and the movie stalled. I checked and as it turns out that the drive had been unmounted but the folder (/media/My Passport)where it had originally mounted still remained. So when I clicked on the usb drive again it mounts it to /media/My Passport_. Obviously this is not good since my mpd screws up because it cant find songs and other things depending on the path dont work either.

This happened to me a couple of times before as well...but I dismissed it. Has anyone else seen this?
