A fully customizeable DM?

I've been using GDM, but it seems a bit lacking in the eye candy department, even with themes. What I'm looking for is a simple DM where you could set a picture as the background for the log-in screen. Is there something like this, or is it possible?

Re: A fully customizeable DM?

GDM allows you to set a background picture. But what you're asking is a bit odd. First you want eye candy, and then you want simple? tongue

Eye candy: Entrance: http://xcomputerman.com/pages/entrance.html (Not many themes, but you could make your own)
Simple: SLiM: http://slim.berlios.de/ (Many themes are also on these forums)
Simpler: None

Can't get any more customizable than Entrance. You can even include a clock 'widget' on the login screen! cool

Re: A fully customizeable DM?

Best i ever tried (for my girlfriend session, i use simple getty)

community/qingy 0.9.7-3
Qingy is a DirectFB getty replacement
community/qingy-theme-arch 2.0-1
     Arch Linux themes for qingy
aur/qingy-themes 20060602-1 (22)
    Themes Pack for qingy

Re: A fully customizeable DM?

Could you please explain how GDM is lacking in the eyecandy dept.? It has the same level of eyecandy as pretty much everything else, except maybe entrance.

I mean, I wanted to put an image at the log in screen.

I've now tried SLiM, using my wallpaper as the background for it. It didn't work, just sent me into an x session.

I guess startx does the trick well enough.

+ 1 to startx or CLI login. DMs are overrated and useless, IMO

No I haven't tried it yet. But the wiki page says that the synaptic touchpad may not work and even with the workaround, tapping etc might not work....so I am not so keen on it.
CLI login ftw !!!
