[Solved] D-BUS fails to start, unable to use the system

So, after last time I updated, there was the problems with HAL automount and such, you know it. Then I read in another thread about configuring some policy stuff to get it work, did that, restarted D-BUS&HAL - problem solved. BUT..
after rebooting, I get
"Starting D-BUS
Failed to start message bus no text content expected inside XML element busconfig in configuration file"
Then HAL starts, sometimes it fails and nothing happens, but most of the time I get into SLIM, trying to log in; mouse does not work, nor the keyboard. However the system is "working", since mpd starts on boot - music starts playing.
I also tried to get into virtual console, but nothing happened when I pressed ctrl+alt+F1/F2/etc.
So, I am unable to get into arch to actually trying to fix it, what can I do? I obviously need to boot into some liveCD or similar, right? But don't really have clue what to do there.

edit: using normal Arch Linux boot image takes to slim without any massive delay - fallback image tries to load HAL for ~2min and then gets to slim.

Re: [Solved] D-BUS fails to start, unable to use the system

I booted into Kubuntu live CD, took hal away from daemons, changed inittab to go to runlevel 3 instead of 5, so now I am able to get to vc atleast. Did pacman -Syu, rebooted, tried to start hal, nope, same error as before, d-bus complaining about error.
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 49#p503149 seems to have same problem as me, but /etc/dbus-1/system.conf looks ok to me :d

Re: [Solved] D-BUS fails to start, unable to use the system

Do you by any chance have dbus and hal both listed in the DAEMONS array?

HAL will start dbus for you, so if you are gonna use hal, remove or disable(! sign before it) the dbus daemon from the array.

Re: [Solved] D-BUS fails to start, unable to use the system

I remember having similar issues until I forced dbus to be explicitedly started before hal in the DAEMONS array. The system runs stable since then.

To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

Please kill me, I had accidentally pressed "z" when editing nm-applet.conf, so it caused the problem. Oh lawd.
