looking for a new wireless card

i've been migrating my network to 802.11. and i need a wireless card for a desktop. looking for suggestions. so far i've had more luck with intel chips than anything. right now the card in the system in question has an rt2500 chip, and i have another with an rt61, so far i can't get them to connect under linux with wpa2 encryption, so i'd like to avoid though. the machine in question runs windows, but i like to run live CD's once in a while on it, so something well supported under linux would be good. i've heard good things about atheros chipsets lately, though im not sure how well they work on teh linux side. anyway, just looking for recommendations

im looking for something on teh cheaper side, dont want to spend too much, but i do want something good. i was also thinking maybe a pci-e card might be best if possible

Re: looking for a new wireless card

I just installed an Intel 3945abg which is very well supported in the kernel. It even supports power save on linux. I have run this card on 2 laptops, and never encountered a problem. In Denmark it's around 40$ so you will definitely be able to find it cheaper. ;-)

Re: looking for a new wireless card

I got an rt2500 and rt61 too and they work wonderfully with ndiswrapper, in spite of serialmonkey drivers also work (with minor issues)

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Re: looking for a new wireless card

i actually booted chakra on the box i have with the rt2500 and it connected perfectly. but i cant seem to get my clean arch install to connect with teh rt61, it works fine without encryption though

i was doing some research earlier, the d-link dwa-552 is looking like a good option, its atheros based.
