7.1 ALC888 card downmix to 5.1 Soundsystem does not work.

Card: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
It is a 7.1 onboard chip and i use a 5.1 Soundsystem.

When i put xine to 5.1 output i got the backgound sound but no speach.
With xine on 2.0 i can listen all.

What is the best way to downmix the 8 channels to 6???

Till now i do testing with alsa and .asoundrc but no luck only 2.0 or 7.1 sound works.

Please help!

HDA Analyzer

This tool allows change the HDA codec setting using direct hardware access
bypassing driver's mixer layer.

To learn more about HDA (High Definition Audio), see
http://www.intel.com/standards/hdaudio/ for more details.

Please, if you find how your codec work, send this information to alsa-devel
mailing list - http://www.alsa-project.org .

Bugs, ideas, comments about this program should be sent to alsa-devel
mailing list, too.

Thats quite cool!

But  i do not know what to do with that incredible tool!

I found another treat about intel_HDA probs so i link there: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64543

With asoundconf and asoundconf-gtk i build a funktional asound setting but only for stereo....

Re: 7.1 ALC888 card downmix to 5.1 Soundsystem does not work.

stereo's not good enough(an honest question)? how often do you use mono and would you even hear the difference if you did?

anyway, isn't 'mux' in alsamixer/kmix/whatever the 'downmixer' ?

I managed to fix my mic with alsa by copying the "official" hda-intel config, maybe you will fix your probem if you copy the "official" config to .asoundrc you too. it's in pacman -Ql alsa-lib.

Re: 7.1 ALC888 card downmix to 5.1 Soundsystem does not work.

big_smile yes i can differ between mono and stereo.

My prob is that yes Stereo will be o.k. but i got a 5.1 Soundsystem and so i got SUB and Center Channels and yes i want do downmix to 5.1 caus the soundcard is 7.1 and so there are the side output a can not hear.
