OK here is my problem, I have a dell latitude and it has a blue Fn key for adjusting volume, Wireless on and off, and screen brightness. I have tried both the "showkey' command and "xev" command. Neither one sees the key. "Dmesg | tail -5" doesn't show that an unrecognized key it there. I can use the "Fn" to change screen brightness with no problem but I can get it to work with the volume. I open the keyboard settings in XFCE and add the entry "amixer Master 5%+" and then it asks for the key combo. No matter how much I hit the "fn" key the program doesn't see me hitting the key. But like I said I can use the key to change screen brightness. I checked the wiki and followed directions only to have it say the key is unusable. In Ubuntu I could use the key no problem so i KNOW it is possible.
Any Ideas?

a keymapping software. you have it in repos. and also install keytouch-editor. you will need it to map the keys
you can install it with pacman
pacman -S keytouch keytouch-editor
using keytouch editor you should be able to detect your keys and assign actions to them. then you run keytouch and select the keyboard file you made in the editor.
here is the link to the keytouch documentation should you need it http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/doc.php
if everything works ok, you should make keytouchd load with your session so you dont have to run keytouch every time you log in

Hot Damn !!
I just never bothered about it ...until now. I have a Dell Latitude C810 -- about 9 years old. I will try out keytouch and that will give me an additional key to create keybindings with. Woot !!
