installed nvidia, how should xorg look?

I just installed the nvidia driver for a 7600gts. Then I ran nvidia-xconfig. I can log into X, although it is slow. I am new to this and was wondering if the "Device" section needed anything added to it, such as agp, and things like that, that could increase performance. If so would someone mind telling me what I need in the "Device" section and if I need anything how I add it? Thanks, smile.

Re: installed nvidia, how should xorg look?

I have found this page but do not know which commands to use and how to use them. But I think it is a big start.

http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L … dix-b.html

This keeps showing up, for instance when I run glxgears:
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib:  extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".

Sometimes many lines of it.

you can safely ignore those. That's a nuisance bug that crept up in xorg. The latest version of xorg that is currently in the testing repo, has a fix and it will be released soon.

What does `slow' mean?
Seems to me, that if just logging into X causes perfomance issues - that's not about your video card and nvidia drivers. You may try to switch temporarily to vesa driver just to make sure.

If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Re: installed nvidia, how should xorg look?

It seems to be a problem with nvidia and kde. Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late reply, have been busy.
